Student Corner

I am so excited that we have some super students at West Madison.  Over the past few months I heard some great things about the following students. They all have one thing in common, they have helped people in need.

The first student is Tyler B.
A few years ago his class at WM adopted a family in need at Christmas.  He was concerned that some children were not going to have a Christmas and he wanted to give his own money to help them.  He was adament about giving all the money he saved to help them.  That year he donated $110.  This year was no different.  He took all the money he had saved and gave it to a family in need at Christmas.  This is one student at WM with a big heart.

The second student is Matthew K.
Matthew was coming home from a basketball practice when Matthew noticed that something wasn't right about his neighbor's house.  He told his mom and dad.  They were able to call 911.  The neighbor's chimney was on fire.  His mother ran to the neighbor's house and pounded on the door.  The neighbor's had no idea that their house was on fire.  The fire department was able to save the house.  Because of Matthew and his family the neighbors are alive today as well as their house saved.   Wow, what a hero! Matthew and his family are amazing!

These are only two students who are among the very special students at West Madison.
Look forward to more students spotlighted from WMES.

What's Happening at West Madison

We're Back!

We had a great first week back to school.  It was great seeing all the kids.  We missed them so much.

I walked into classrooms on Tuesday morning and it was like we never left.

Welcome to Mrs. Lusk
Mrs. Lusk is our new art teacher.  She will be with us this semester and next semester.  We are so excited that she is with us.  She has many wonderful art projects planned for our students.

BRRR It's Cold Outside

We had a couple of very cold days this past week.  According to the meteorologists there will be more to come as we go through the winter season.  Please make sure you send your children to school with coats and hats on.  Most teachers go outside even if only for a few minutes.  We do not take students out if it is below freezing.

If your child is missing a coat, hat, glove or lunchbox, we have lots of them in our lost and found.  Please come by and find your child's coat and hat.  We will be sending any items in the lost and found to the Asbury Thrift Store after January 26.

Libby Liberty comes to Madison!

The fifth grade students were treated to a spectacular presentation by Libby Liberty on Friday.
Below is a link to the article on the WHNT website.

Spelling Bee Coming Up on Wednesday!

We have approximately 24 students who will be competing this week to see who will represent West Madison in the Madison County Spelling Bee! We wish everyone well.  It shows great spelling ability and courage to get up in front of our class and be the best speller.  Congratulations to those students.

SciQuest will be here January 12-26
Kindergarten - Glow Potions
First Grade - Super Slime
Second Grade - Volcanos
Third Grade - Sixth Grade - Coding/Computer Animation

On Tuesday, January 13,  second grade students will take the OLSAT (Otis -Lennon School Ability Test).
This test is used to help us measure scholastic achievement. It measures memory, speed and the ability to see relationships and patterns.  It will also test critical thinking and reasoning skills.  It is one component we use to identify gifted students.  It is not a test the students can prepare for.  The best way to prepare is make sure students get good rest the night before and have a good breakfast the morning of the test.  The test is less than 50 minutes long.

We have lots of new students, therefore I would like to remind everyone of our carline procedures.  Please view the video below.  There is also a link on the left side of our website.

Below is also a link to our website concerning car line procedures.  The procedures are in place to keep everyone safe as well as help everyone get to work on time.
