Have you Built a Snowman?
Ok, WMES Peeps.  I haven't seen any pictures at #wldcatsroar, except from our teachers.  I know you have some pictures.  Tweet them to #wldcatsroar.

The snowman with the largest circumference gets a prize.  Let me see your pictures as you get out today!

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Do you want to build a snowman?

I am not above copying a great idea!  Harvest Elementary posted this challenge to their students.  I am issuing the same challenge to our students.

Math Snow Challenge

West Madison students, after the snow has finished falling and it is beautiful and white.  I want you to build a snowman OR make a snow angel.  Decorate it and take a picture of it.  Post it to #wldcatsroar on twitter.  Oh...you aren't finished yet, use measuring tape to locate the following:

1.  How many feet tall is it?

2.  How wide or round is it?

3.  Covert the feet to inches for length and width.  (K-3 you can get help from mom and dad).

4.  Locate the circumference of the bottom of the snowman.

Don't forget to write all this down.  Show your work and share it with your teacher, if you want.  It isn't required. Just have fun, plus learn while you do it. :)

Look What's Happening at West Madison

Look What's Happening at West Madison

We had some very special Valentine's Day Celebrations.  Thank you so all for the candy and cards.  It made Thursday and Friday very special.

The Word for the Month is  Caring

At our Monday Assembly, a group of 6th Grade students presented a skit.  The student in the corner by himself, represented lonely.  He was there by himself, while the other students were holding a conversation and having a good time.  One student broke from the group and went over to ask the "lonely" student if he wanted to join the group.

We have had several other skits by the students as well, demonstrating how we all can show "caring" for others at school!

......And the winner is......

Look What's Happening at West Madison

Author Visits West Madison
Hester Bass came to West Madison to share her book Seeds of Freedom with Third Graders and Fourth Graders this week!

She told the students about Mr. Sonny Hereford, resident of Madison who was the first African American student to integrate public schools in Huntsville.  At the same time on the historical day in 1963, reverse integration was going on at St. Joseph's catholic school.  A group of 10 Caucasian students entered a predominately African American school.

It was a wonderful presentation.  The students learned a lot.

 Have a Happy Valentine's Day

Please be reminded that February 13 will be a 1/2 day for students.  Dismissal will be at 11:00.

President's Day, February 16 - No School
