Reflections from Last Week

We had such a wonderful, exciting last week.  It really seems like we have been in school for weeks.  The students have been well behaved and I have seen so many be helpful to their classmates.  It has been good to see all of the students who are former WM students.  I have loved meeting our new students as well.   It truly made my day Friday when one of our new students came up to me and gave me a big hug and said "Have a great weekend, Dr. Jah!"   We have some really sweet students.

As I walked around the building last week, it was so great to see students working in groups and collaborating with each other, first graders were reviewing high frequency words, determining how they can make the number 4 and telling everyone special things about themselves.  In fourth grade the students were reviewing multiplication facts.  A third grade class has set realistic goals for themselves for the year.  A 5th grade class was learning about how our brain functions.  They learned about the 2 different lobes of the brain, right and left and what is the function of each side.  They determined how they learn best. Are they more right brain or left brain.  They base this on the seat in the room they feel they are going to learn best.  The students  had me participate in  an activity to determine where I would sit and I am slightly more right brain.  I chose to sit in the front row and slightly to the left side.  It was facinating.

Last Thursday night we had the 5th grade Curriculum Night.  I was so pleased to see so many parents present.  The teachers did an excellent job talking about their curriculum and their classroom procedures.

This week we have K, 1, 2, 4 and 6th grade Curriculum Nights.  Please make plans to attend.  You will be able to ask questions and find out about AR, the curriculum and the grade level procedures.
