What's Happening at West Madison

Congratulations

Two West Madison Lego Robotics teams competed last weekend in a competition at Athens State University.  I am so proud of them.

This is what Mrs. Horne, one of the team leaders said about the teams:

"The two West Madison Lego Robotics teams excelled at the FLL Qualifier in Athens. I was impressed with the support and gracious professionalism the two teams showed for each other. Both teams came away with a high score of 90 on the robot table runs, putting them in the top third in robot performance. Robotic Nation received the Innovative Solution Award for their card game Dusk, Dawn and Fight,  which helps students learn about World War I....."

Congratulations Robotic Nation!  They will be going to State in January.

What's Happening at West Madison

Happy Thanksgiving West Madison Parents and Students
I pray everyone has a safe Thanksgiving.

I would like to say Thank you to our PTA and especially all the parents who worked on the Boosterthon Fundraiser.  They really have worked hard.  The students teachers had so much fun and you all raised over $26,000 .

That is awesome!

If you haven't sent your pledge money in, please do so ASAP.  Thank you so much!

Friday's Boosterthon Assembly

Everything you heard from your child about the Boosterthon Assembly was correct.  I did EAT THAT WORM!

I explained to the students, however that I researched "worm eating".  I purchased the meal worms from a local pet store.  :)  Yes I did chew.  Fortunately there was little to no taste, so I did SURVIVE.  :)

Mrs. Miller was also ducktapped to the wall of the gym.  It took quite a while to make the tape secure, so she didn't slip out. :)

It was so much fun.  Here are few pictures to capture the events of the day.

Sci-Quest

This past week, third grade had their SciQuest lesson.  On Monday, Kindergarten will have their lesson and 5th grade on Tuesday.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.  Enjoy time with your family!

What's Happening at West Madison

This week has truly been an amazing week. We began the week with our Veterans Day Honor Assembly and our Fourth Grade Performance at PTA.    It was a tremendous day that brought tears to everyone who attended.

It is wonderful when you begin by desiring to bless someone making their day a little brighter but then you end up being truly blessed in return.  That is how it was this week with our Veterans Honor Assembly.  As you walk the halls of WMES and read the many essays and letters to Veterans and Active Duty Service men and women, that students know that Veterans Day is a special day or honor.
Some of our students letters were even taken by their teacher to a local Veterans home.  One Veteran in particular was moved by a students letter, the teacher made this statement below:

The letter moved him to tears.  He asked about the student who wrote the letter, and I told him it was a fifth grader.  It was really from that fifth grader’s heart.  He asked me to tell Jayden “thank you for writing the letter.”
After that, I stayed and visited with him for about 15 minutes or so. I got him to talk about himself; he’s a Vietnam veteran of the Air Force, 21 years in the service, retired, then went to work on the Arsenal as a contractor. He has been at the Veteran’s Home for 5 years, and does not have family here.  Jayden's letter truly moved him because of the way he and other Vietnam Vets were treated when they came home.  Jayden's letter was  perfect  for him.

Several of the Honorees referenced how proud they were that our students were learning to appreciate what our Service men, women and families go through every day for the freedom we enjoy.

I am so excited that because of our awesome students, parents, faculty, staff, family and friends.  We met our fundraiser goal this year.  I think that is a first here at West Madison.  I am so proud of everyone.  We all had so much fun.  But it is not over yet! We have the pledges but we now need to bring in the money.  All money should be collected and sent into school this week, November 20.

What's Happening at West Madison

Happy Veterans Day!

I would like to thank all those who serve and have served in the military.   Because of you, we live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.   However, freedom is not free. It costs every time a soldier leaves home. I know that it costs more than we can even imagine. Thank you to our soldiers  and all your families.

Our Veterans Day Honor Assembly was so wonderful.  It was a special moment in time for us as well as for the Honorees.  We had approximately 20 Honorees present.  It was great having so many there.  We began the special time with the Bob Jones Honor Guard...Presentation and posting of Colors.  Emma, a sixth grade student play the National Anthem on the violin.  It was truly inspirational.

Our fourth and sixth grade students sang America, while signing the song.  It was such a great day.  Our Honorees were also treated to a breakfast by the West Madison Faculty and Staff.

Enrichment Students went to the Madison Senior Center to Honor Veterans!

Enrichment students traveled to the Madison Senior Center to Honor Veterans there. They then taught the group to juggle and played games with them.

To take a phrase from Mr. Parker, It was definitely a great day to be a West Madison Wildcat!

The Boosterthon Fun Run is Almost Here!

The Boosterthon Fun Run is almost here.  On Thursday, November 13, students will be running 30-35 laps to raise money for classroom supplies and technology at WM.  I can't wait.  It will be so much fun.  We have the Bob Jones Cheerleaders coming to cheer us on.  Remember if we get 100% of our students registered on Funrun.com we will get a chance to duck tape Mrs. Miller to the wall.  I would love for us to be able to do that.  Make sure this weekend you register your child.

You may have heard a rumor from your child.  If we raise our goal of $26,000....I am going to.....to....to....eat a.....I can barely say...it    A WORM!

Yes,  you read that right, a real, live WORM!

I can't wait.  I am ready to do it.  I have been practicing, warming my mouth up,  ready to do it.  I have been practicing, working my way up to the worm.

So I AM READY!

Now let's reach our goal.

This weekend I want to challenge everyone to register and to make a minimum of $2 pledge per lap to get these awesome flexible sunglasses.

Boosterthon is not just about fundraising.  Students are receiving a great character lesson during their morning huddles.

It is important to serve others.  Boosterthon promotes giving back.  The organization they give back to this year, helps Military Kids, children whose parents serve in the military both here and abroad.
